AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The goal of AVID is to prepare students for college and success in a global society. AVID is an approved elective class offered to students 9-12 who are determined to go on to post-secondary education and would like some help to get there. To apply, students must have satisfactory citizenship and discipline, good attendance, and a G.P.A. of 2.5 or higher.
Students are accepted into the program as 9th graders through an application and interview/screening process and are expected to continue in the program through their senior year. Applicants must be motivated to work toward college eligibility.

will develop learning, study, and academic skills that are essential to success in rigorous coursework.
will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum (including Honors, AP and Dual Enrollement classes)
will be involved in their school (examples include extra curricular clubs, athletics, community service, fine arts, and technology)
will enroll and attend post secondary education or training,
will become responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
Student Responsibilities While in Criagmont's AVID Program: • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA • Maintain satisfactory citizenship (referral and detention free) and 97 % attendance. • Maintain enrollment in courses of rigor (ex: honors, dual enrollment, Optional and/or AP). • Maintain an AVID binder in accordance with AVID elective class expectations. • Be an active learner in all classes (complete work, ask questions, focused notes, agenda, etc.). • Prepare for tutorials and bringing academic resources. • Participate in extracurricular activities and community service. • Prepare for and take college entrance exams such as the PSAT, SAT, and ACT.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities: • Partner with the AVID Elective teacher through regular communication. • Monitor the AVID student’s academic process and their attendance by reviewing grades in SCS PowerSchool Parent Portal. • Check for an organized binder with agenda, Focused Notes, and TRFs weekly. • Encouraging opportunities to take rigorous courses, complete college prep/entrance exams, and participate in community service, extracurricular activities, and leadership opportunities
